FEEDBACK FROM APRIL'S INVESTOR IN PEOPLE INTERIM REPORT

Fox (Owmby) Ltd has achieved the milestones set out in the initial action plan, demonstrating a continuing commitment to being an investor in people organization. The milestones indicated in the action plan have been achieved, and as a result, the Assessor believes the organization is on target to undertake a full assessment against the Standard in March 2010.

There is evidence that extensive planning and consultation has been undertaken. The task is now to communicate the outcomes, effectively to the people.

The assessment in March 2010 will be used to identify the effectiveness of the different communication strategies the organisation will adopt over the forthcoming year.
The Assessor confirmed that the Standard was not changing over the forthcoming year and the assessment process would be the same as experienced in 2008.

FILLING THE GAP

Fox have stepped up to the mark over recent months working closely with Clients and Consultants on multiple sites for WRG constructing Landfill Cell’s, Capping and Civil Engineering Works.

We have built a new cell at their Danes Moss site installing leachate drainage systems, engineering and conditioning material to quality controlled standards. At their Rigby site we have delivered capping works to existing cells incorporating Leachate Management Systems.

BOMBS AWAY

Paul Wilson, one of Fox’s most experienced Site Agents has come up trumps again, inspiring confidence in Veolia. We have recently uncovered a stash of 2nd world war munitions whilst constructing 2 new landfill cells at their Ling Hall site. The bomb disposal squad were called in and the 36 bombs were detonated with a controlled explosion. Onsite we have reused old plant washings/silt beds and conditioned the material making it suitable for capping of which we have laid over a 30,000m2 area.

Relations with Veolia have been positive resulting in the award of a second contract at their New Albion site completing restoration, capping and remediation of a slip on previously restored area.

Feedback from Veolia:
“Fox have been acting as a principal contractor on a £2M landfill construction scheme in the Midlands that involved some rather difficult and clearly unforeseen ground conditions, i.e. unexploded World War II shells. The excavation works continued for several days in the presence of a bomb disposal team and Fox proved to be very pragmatic and cooperative throughout the process. The whole issue was dealt with swiftly and professionally with little effect on the works programme.”

“We appointed Fox to complete restoration of some 6ha of former colliery land to a variety of end uses at our New Albion site. The works are now nearing completion and I can tell we made the right choice. Fox do stand out when it comes to moving soils which seems to be reflective of their experience and methodical approach to planning of a job.”

BRANCHING OUT WITH A PRINCIPAL CLIENT

Fox have historically worked with Cemex throughout their midlands regions completing overburden stripping, aggregate extraction, restoration and infrastructure works. We have recently moved in to fresh pastures with Cemex winning 2 contracts in the South West against sizeable competition. Working closely with the Client we helped develop existing designs to fit their requirements and complete the restoration of a redundant aggregates quarry.

We have also completed an extraction and stockpile contract within 25 miles of the restoration site. We extracted 30,000m3 of gravel for Cemex at their Fawley site and are looking forward to opportunities with further phases of works encompassing extraction and restoration works.

We have built a relationship with The Composting Company Ltd over a number of months helping develop budgets, designs and demonstrating competence. This has led to the award of the extension of their Cumberlow Green IVC site. The delivery of the works has gone very well and has led to The Composting Company inviting us to work closely with them to suggest solutions and proposals at different sites.
